On the road again

Got to Vegas about 5:30 and checked in at South Point Casino at about 7. Paul, the guy who stored the Wee for me over the winter, was kind enough to pick me up and take me to his place to get the bike at about 8:45.

There's too much room in the desert. The Las Vegas airport is vast. Landed
at Terminal 2, took the subway to Terminal 3 for baggage claim, then a bus
to Terminal 1 to catch the shuttle to South Point Casino. Walked miles.

I took the cover off, shook off the dust, lifted the seat, hooked up the battery, turned the key and vroom, she started right up. Gotta love it! Rode it to the parking garage at the casino -- 38,000 miles on the odo and she feels brand new.

I forgot how big this thing is with all the luggage and the tall windshield. Dwarfs the Bonneville. Gotta remember to allow for the width of the side cases when maneuvering. Loaded up, the center of gravity is pretty high. Bump something with a side case at low speed and it’s easy to dump it.

Here's the bike, happy to be out of the barn and tucked in for the night in the
casino garage -- a continent-crosser among the Harleys.

If you're looking for a bike and haven’t settled on something else, I can’t say enough about the V-Strom. It’s a bit tall, but what a sweet disposition. Lovely motor, six-speed tranny. Zoom, zoom.

Now I just have to sort out a ton of gear, get the bike packed and ship a box of stuff I don’t need to Maine.

  1. So, are you still living in Hawaii? I sent you a facebook message a while back and never heard from you, though admittedly, I could have been a little more persistent. I haven't seen you since you were 19? 20? Looks like you're making the most of every day. Nice to read about your adventures.
